What is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease? Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) makes it difficult to push air out of the lungs. When your lungs are filled with air, there is no room for fresh, oxygen rich air. COPD includes Emphysema and Chronic bronchitis.
Some of the cause for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease may be cigarette smoking, second hand smoke, exposure to pollutants, history of frequent childhood lung infections, etc.
The symptoms are coughing, coughing up clear sputum, wheezing, shortness of breath.
Treatment may include chest xray, CT scan, blood tests, lung function tests.
