About Leesburg, VA
The county seat of Loudon County, Virginia, Leesburg was built in 1740 and has been inhabited by some of the most famous Virginian families.
Situated at the bottom of the Catoctin Mountain and bordering the Potomac River, Leesburg is also only 33 miles (ca. 53 km) northwest of Washington, D.C. If you fancy a trip to the capital to see the White House, you are only around a 30-minute drive away.
Because of its proximity to Washington, D.C, Leesburg has become a popular commuter suburb. Close enough to the hustle and bustle, but far enough away for some peace and quiet!

Leesburg was named after an ancestor of a leading political figure in Colonial Virginia — Robert E. Lee. His ancestor was Thomas Lee.
During the war of 1812, Leesburg became the temporary seat of the US Government, however, changed hands several times during the civil war.
